Grappling and Wrestling
Grappling refers to a situation when you are grabbed by an opponent and in this practise we are working to gain an advantage, either by applying a lock or upsetting our opponent's balance to take them to the ground.
Wrestling, sometimes referred to as groundwork, helps to develop the ability to move on the ground. Sometimes this is away from an opponent and sometimes this can be to gain an advantage and control an opponent on the ground. This will build confidence in defending yourself even in a situation where you have been taken off your feet. As you gain experience you will learn how to apply locks and chokes to control an opponent.
Although we usually practise wearing the traditional gi (karate suit), occasionally we will train in T-shirts which gives a different element to the practise as certain grabs or control points are no longer available.
