The Russell Trophy Roll of Honour

December 2020
With the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions limiting our training to a virtual environment, we have taken the difficult decision not to award the Russell Trophy in December. It was felt that due our limited time together, we would not be able to provide fair comments. Hopefully training will return to normal in 2021, allowing us to present the trophy again.

July 2020 - The Whole Club
The unusual situation created by the Coronavirus has led to us seeking alternative ways to train and keep in touch whilst our regular classes were on hold. There has been so much effort across the club to keep the spirit of BMAC alive during this time that we decided that the whole club would be symbolically awarded the Russell Trophy. Well done everyone, it has been a very tough time but the camaraderie of our club has shone through.

December 2019 - John Marley
The club voted for John as the third recipient of the Russell Trophy and he was presented with the award at our first session of 2020. A long time member of BMAC, John has such respect from all of us for his knowledge, skill level and teaching ability. His love of quick and effective moves is infectious and we all learn a great deal from training with him. A very well deserved recognition, John was described in one comment as being the conscience of BMAC for his study of techniques and testing them for their effectiveness. Congratulations John,

July 2019 - Ross Walton
Our members voted Ross as the second winner of the Russell Trophy and he was presented with the award at our summer club night out. Ross joined the club as a junior and now as a Third Dan teaches both our junior and senior classes. Amongst the comments, Ross was praised for being an excellent teacher and helping everyone in the club improve their skills. A skilled martial artist and training partner, he is a great friend to many in the club and one comment summed him up as exemplifying the next generation of BMAC. Congratulations Ross!

December 2018 - Hugh Russell
The club unanimously agreed that Hugh should be the first recipient of the Russell Trophy and we presented him with the award during the club's Christmas night out. In creating the criteria for the award, we looked to the qualities that Hugh displays as the head instructor in the club and so he was the only choice to receive the trophy. Many stories were shared of what Hugh means to us, in terms of training, encouragement and friendship. Congratulations on this well deserved recognition Hugh. .
